Very early on the morning of October 12th, 2013, while a Las Vegas, NV resident was putting up yard sale signs, she left the door of her 2013 Ford Edge open and the engine running. This was too much temptation for two male passersby in a pickup truck. The truck stopped and one passenger hopped out of the pickup, into the Edge and drove it away. It’s a good thing that our victim made the right choice and had the LoJack® system installed when she bought her car less than a year ago. With LoJack’s help, local law enforcement recovered the Edge in just over one hour after activation.

The Ford’s owner immediately contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department where a report was filed. After verifying the theft, officers entered the stolen vehicle information into the NCIC Stolen Vehicle System. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Edge, which was installed at Team Ford in Las Vegas, NV.

A short while later, an officer with the LVMP Northwest Area Command began picking up the homing signal from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computer in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to Painted Rock Lane in Las Vegas, where it was parked and abandoned. The undamaged Edge, valued at $22,773, was soon returned to its relieved owner.
