The victim in this case was borrowing a friend’s Land Rover Range Rover, and left it parked and running outside his home due to a battery problem. When he exited his residence five minutes later, he had a whole new problem- a stolen SUV. It’s a good thing his friend chose to have the LoJack® system installed when she purchased her car, so local law enforcement using LoJack could track it down in less than an hour after activation.

On September 22nd, 2013, the victim contacted the Miami Beach Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft, prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Range Rover, which was installed at Land Rover of North Dade in Miami, FL.

A short while later, a Miami Beach PD officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen Land Rover on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle. The officer, along with backup, located the vehicle parked and abandoned on 8th Street. The SUV was recovered and soon returned to its relieved owner.
