You would think that parking your truck in a yard surrounded by a chain link fence and secured by a padlock would keep it safe. You would think that, but you’d be wrong in this case, where a Miami Gardens, FL resident discovered his Ford F-350 missing one Tuesday afternoon. This victim prepared in advance for this situation by having the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his truck, so local law enforcement could track it down and recover it for him.

On October 1st, 2013, the Ford’s owner contacted the Miami Gardens Police Department to report his pickup stolen from his residence. Officers verified the theft, prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the pickup truck, which was installed at Maroone Ford in Miami, FL.

Later that afternoon, a Miami Gardens PD officer picked up the homing signal from the F-350 on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. After requesting backup, the officer located the truck backed in to a driveway of an abandoned house on N.W. 36th Avenue. The Ford was recovered and soon returned to its grateful owner.
