The Philadelphia, PA resident in this case had a very difficult afternoon. Someone broke into her car, stole her purse, and used the keys in the purse to steal her other vehicle, a Ford Ranger Thunderbolt Edition. Having the LoJack® system installed in her truck made this tough time a little better, because local police air and ground units, assisted by LoJack, were able to track down and recover her pickup that same day.

On October 6th, 2013, the Ford’s owner contacted Philadelphia Police to report the incident. Officers verified the theft and entered the stolen vehicle information into the Philadelphia Police Computer System, the Philadelphia Crime Information center and the Pennsylvania State Police Computer. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Ranger, which was installed at John Kennedy Ford in Feasterville, PA.

A short while later, officers from the Philadelphia Police Aviation Division received the homing signal from the stolen truck on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. The Aviation Officers tracked the Ford to the area of Emerald and Cambria Streets, and contacted ground units for assistance. The ground officers located the truck in a multi garage structure next to a private residence. The garage’s owner contacted the person renting the garage, who was taken into custody. The Ranger was soon returned to its grateful owner.
