A John Deere 310 backhoe was missing from a construction site in Houston, TX, in this case. The company owners already knew the value of the LoJack® system- this particular piece of equipment had already been stolen four previous times- and each time it was recovered by local police with the help of LoJack.

On September 11th, 2013, the backhoe’s owner contacted the Houston Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the State and Federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the machine.

A while later, officers from Harris County Sheriff’s Department and the Houston PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen backhoe on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles. The Houston officers tracked the signal to a wooded area located off Highway 90 East. The backhoe was hidden inside a large grove of trees. The construction crew was relieved to have their backhoe returned to them. This case was the fifth time the backhoe had been stolen and recovered by police assisted by LoJack.
