Most motel parking lots are directly adjacent to the business itself, and there are usually employees working in the facility 24 hours a day. Unfortunately, that does not mean that vehicles cannot be stolen from the lot. The victim in this case found out the hard way when his Ford F-350 and an attached trailer with construction tools, supplies and building materials inside were stolen overnight from a Lantana, FL motel lot. The LoJack® system installed in the truck proved its value by helping local police recover the truck that same day.

On September 19th, 2013, the Ford’s owner contacted the Lantana Police to report the crime. The responding officer verified the theft and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the F-350, which was installed at David Pyles in Alta Loma, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, a Miami-Dade police officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen truck on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer, along with backup, located the vehicle in a private yard on S.W. 168th Street. One subject at the scenes was taken into custody. . The Ford was soon returned to its very grateful owner. The trailer, which was not LoJack equipped, was not recovered.
