Here’s a tip that may help you figure out whether someone is a ‘friend’ or not- when you leave them in your vehicle while you make a quick stop at a store, are they still there when you come out? The Pompano Beach, FL resident in this case found out that her companions were not to be trusted when she exited a convenience store and found her 2011 Chevrolet Traverse- and her ‘friends’- gone. The LoJack® system she had installed when she purchased her SUV helped police find her Traverse in less than a half hour after activation.

On September 25th, 2013, the Chevy’s owner contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report the crime. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Traverse, which was installed at Maroone Chevrolet in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

A short time later, an auto theft detective from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Pompano Beach picked up the homing signal from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Moments later, the Chevy passed the detective, and he followed it to a gas station, along with backup. Two suspects were apprehended, and the Traverse was soon returned to its relieved owner.
