In this case, the owner of a 2009 Toyota Tundra and a friend were carjacked by two armed men. The most important factor in this situation is that the two victims were unharmed. The second is that the truck’s owner had the LoJack® system installed at the time of purchase so police were able to track down both his vehicle and one of his assailants.

On September 2nd, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the New Orleans Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Tundra, which was installed at Lakeside Toyota in Metairie, LA.

A short while later, a New Orleans police officer picked up the homing signals from the stolen truck on the LoJack tracking computers installed in his patrol vehicle. Additional police units came into the area to assist. The officers tracked the Toyota being driven near I-10. After a brief chase, the officers stopped the vehicle. The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was soon apprehended. The Toyota Tundra was recovered in good shape and soon returned to its grateful owner.
