In this case, the Phoenix, AZ based owner of a Chevrolet Avalanche left his truck running to cool off while he went back inside. It’s likely that he got a little hot under the collar when he came back outside and his vehicle was gone. His local police were able to diffuse the situation by working with the Avalanche’s hidden LoJack® system to recover it in less than an hour after activation.

The Chevy’s owner called the Phoenix Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the NCIC police computer. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at O’Rielly Chevrolet in Tucson, AZ.

A short time later, officers from the Phoenix PD Desert Horizon Precinct began picking up the homing signal from the stolen truck with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their police vehicles. The officers were led to a new car dealership on North 14th Street, where the Avalanche was parked in the service area. The Avalanche was recovered and soon returned to its relieved owner.
