The parking lot of a supermarket is usually wide open and well lit, with a lot of people around. It doesn’t seem like a place where a vehicle would be stolen, but that is exactly what happened in Lacey, WA, when the owners of a Mazda RX-8 exited the store and found their car missing. Local law enforcement, with the help of the LoJack® system, saved the day by recovering the RX-8 in less than one hour after activation.

On September 12th, 2013, the Mazda’s owner reported the crime to the Lacey Police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mazda, which was installed at Milam Jeep/Mazda in Puyallup, WA.

A short while later, a Lacey PD officer received the silent LoJack homing signal transmitting from the stolen Mazda on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol car. The officers, assisted by other Lacey PD personnel, located the vehicle near the intersection of Stikes Drive and Stikes Loop where it was parked and abandoned. The undamaged RX-8 was soon returned to its grateful owner.
