In this case, a used car dealership in West Park, FL, was unable to locate a 2010 Ford Econoline van on their lot, and local law enforcement, assisted by the LoJack® system, recovered it in less than one hour after activation.

On September 3rd, 2013, a dealership employee contacted the Broward County, FL Sheriff’s Office to report the theft. The responding officer verified the theft and entered the van’s information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the Econoline was then automatically activated.

A short while later, a Fort Lauderdale PD officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen van on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Shortly thereafter, officers from the Florida Highway Patrol and Hollywood PD picked up the signal as well. A Hollywood PD officer, along with their backup, located the Ford traveling eastbound on Pembroke Road and stopped it. After speaking with the driver and the dealership, it was discovered that the driver had purchased a van from the dealer two weeks ago, but had been give the wrong Econoline. The police and the owner went to the dealership to straighten out the mix-up.
