When a construction site in Chicago, IL, was robbed over a weekend, the thieves took a rented 2013 Bobcat Skid Steer S650. What the thieves didn’t know is that the rental company protected this valuable machine with the LoJack® system, so local police were able to locate and recover it in less than three and a half hours after activation.

On September 16th, 2013, the missing Bobcat was reported to Chicago Police. Officers verified the theft and entered the machine’s information into their local and federal crime computers (LEADS and NCIC). The LoJack transponder installed on the skid steer, which was installed at a large national equipment rental firm, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the Chicago PD began receiving the homing signal from the stolen equipment on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They located the Bobcat hidden behind a cell tower in a vacant lot. The skid steer was soon returned to the grateful workers at the construction site.
