The Newark, NJ resident in this case was packing his 2011 Honda Pilot to leave for vacation. He had left the keys in the ignition and a passer-by hopped in and drove away. Our would-be traveler was very glad he had the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his SUV. Local law enforcement located his Pilot- and found some other stolen vehicles as well.

On August 29th, 2013, the Honda’s owner called the Newark Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Pilot, which was installed at Planet Honda in Union, NJ.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the CSX Railroad Police Department picked up the homing signal from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to a stack of shipping containers at the Port of Newark/Elizabeth. He requested assistance from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the New Jersey State Police Auto Unit North (NJSP). The shipping container was isolated and pulled for examination. Inside they found the Honda and a luxury sedan also recently stolen from Newark. An adjacent second shipping container had two more vehicles- a 2012 high end sedan and a 2010 luxury SUV. The Pilot was soon returned to its very relieved owner.
