A 2013 Toyota Avalon carjacked at gunpoint in Maryland is recovered the same day in Washington, DC, thanks to air and ground law enforcement aided by the LoJack® system.

This scary scenario occurred on August 30th, 2013. The victim called Prince George’s County Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Avalon, which was installed at Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, MD, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, flight officers from the Prince Georges County PD Aviation Unit picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. The flight officers tracked the vehicle to Minnesota Avenue SE in Washington, DC, and notified ground officers from the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police. The Toyota was found parked and unoccupied, and was soon returned to its very relieved owner.
