When is it safe to leave your car unattended with the keys inside? Never! A Brooklyn, NY landlord found this out the hard way when his Toyota Tacoma was stolen while parked in front of his rental property while he was inside making repairs. It’s a good thing he had the LoJack® system installed, so police could recover his truck the same day and get it back to him promptly.

On September 3rd, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the NYPD 68th precinct to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the NYPD stolen vehicle computer and the national NCIC system. The LoJack device concealed in the Tacoma was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the NYPD 68th precinct in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn picked up the homing signal from the Toyota on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked the car to a residential street where it was parked and abandoned. The Tacoma’s driver side mirror was broken, but otherwise the vehicle was undamaged and was soon returned to its relieved owner. The owner was elated that his truck was recovered so quickly, with just minor damage, stating that if it wasn’t for LoJack his vehicle may never have been recovered.
