This case involves two New York police precincts in two separate boroughs (Queens and Brooklyn) working with the LoJack® system to recover a stolen Dodge Charger on the same day it was taken.

On August 9th, 2013, the Dodge’s owner contacted the NYPD 113rd Precinct to report that his vehicle was stolen from in front of his house in the Rochdale section of Queens. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the NYPD stolen vehicle computer and the national NCIC system. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed on the Charger, which was installed at Bayside Chrysler Dodge in Bayside, NY.

Within a short while, members of the 79th precinct in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn picked up the homing signal from the Charger on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked the vehicle while it was being driven and finally brought it to a stop. The two male suspects in the car were arrested.

The owner was elated that his undamaged Charger was recovered so quickly, and with the arrest of the two persons responsible for stealing it. He further stated that he was grateful that he had LoJack installed on his vehicle, feeling that if it wasn’t for LoJack his vehicle may never have been recovered.
