This case involved three branches of California law enforcement working with the LoJack® system to recover a stolen Honda CEX in a little over 90 minutes after activation.

On May 31st, 2013, the Honda’s owner contacted the Riverside Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from his residence. Riverside PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda, which was installed at Kramer Honda-Volvo in Santa Monica, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Air Unit picked up the homing signals from the Honda on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. The flight crew tracked the vehicle as it traveled to Escondido. California Highway Patrol ground units were directed to the location. A traffic stop was performed and one suspect was taken into custody. The undamaged CEX was soon returned to its relieved owner.
