This Garden City, NY resident found her Acura RSX missing from her driveway one Thursday afternoon. She had made the common mistake of leaving a spare key inside her car, which meant that a thief breaking in to steal the contents now had an easy way to take the entire car- and did so. One other item that was inside the victim’s vehicle was the LoJack® system. Although the LoJack unit was concealed so the crook couldn’t see it, its homing signal allowed local police to track the RSX down and return it to its owner.

On August 8th, 2013, the Acura’s owner contacted the Garden City Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the car’s information the Garden City stolen vehicle computer and the national NCIC stolen vehicle system. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit on the RSX, which was installed at Rallye Acura of Roslyn, NY.

A short while later, officers from the NYPD 105th precinct in Cambria Heights, Queens picked up the homing signal from the Acura on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked the car to a residential street in Bellerose, Queens, where it was found parked and abandoned. The undamaged RSX was soon returned to its happy owner, who stated she was elated that her vehicle was recovered so quickly. She was also grateful that she had LoJack installed on her vehicle when she purchased it, feeling that if it wasn’t for LoJack her vehicle may never have been recovered.
