Three welding machines are taken from an equipment rental company in Valdosta, GA in this case. Two are protected by the LoJack® system, which helped police locate them, as well as the third welder and a stolen box truck.

On July 29th, 2013, the manager of the rental company arrived at the store and discovered one of his forklifts on the adjacent property. Further investigation revealed at some time over the weekend, thieves had climbed the fence around the facility and used the forklift to tear down the fence so three welders could be stolen. Two welders were 2013 Lincolns with LoJack® devices installed. The third welder was unprotected. The store manager contacted the Valdosta, GA Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and had the machines’ information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the two Lincoln welders.

A short while later, a Miami-Dade, FL police officer picked up the homing signals from the stolen equipment on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer called for backup and tracked the signal to an abandoned truck on Flagler St. After verifying that the truck was also stolen from Valdosta, officers opened the truck and found all three stolen machines inside. The welders were soon returned to the very grateful rental company.
