A New Jersey resident has her Toyota Corolla taken while she’s bringing clothes into a laundromat in this case. It’s a good thing this victim was smart enough to have the LoJack® system installed when she purchased her car, so police were able to track it down in less than an hour after activation, preventing the thief from making a clean getaway.

On August 2nd, 2013, the Toyota’s owner called the Newark, NJ Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Corolla, which was installed at Hudson Toyota in Jersey City, NJ.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the New Jersey University Police Department picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to South Orange Ave. in Newark, where he found it parked and abandoned. The undamaged Corolla was soon returned to its relieved owner.
