This case involves a John Deere 310G backhoe stolen from a construction site over the weekend. Even though there was no way to tell exactly when the machine was stolen, the local police, with help from the LoJack® system, were able to recover it in less than two hours after activation.

On Monday, August 5th, 2013, work crews returning to a job site in North Las Vegas noticed the backhoe was missing and contacted North Las Vegas Police. Officers verified the theft, and entered the John Deere’s information into the NCIC Stolen Vehicle System. This procedure automatically activated the hidden LoJack unit on the backhoe, which was installed at a large equipment rental firm.

A very short time later, officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol began picking up the homing signal from the vehicle on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol cars. The backhoe was located inside a gated compound with cars, tractor trailers and old trucks. The undamaged John Deere was soon returned to the relieved rental company.
