The New Jersey resident in this case probably didn’t think he was in danger while parking his Lexus 300- until a thief surprised him by throwing him to the ground, grabbing his keys and taking off with his car. The victim was glad he had the foresight to have the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his vehicle, so local law enforcement could track it down and return it to him that same day.

On July 17th, 2013, the owner of the Lexus called Newark, NJ Police to report that he had been carjacked. As he was parking in a lot, a young man grabbed his keys, threw him to the ground and took off with his car. The responding officer verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the 300, which was installed at Hudson Toyota in Jersey City, NJ, was then automatically activated.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signal from the Lexus on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to a parking lot off Market Street in Newark, where he found the car parked and abandoned. The undamaged 300 was soon returned to its relieved owner.
