One of the aspects of the LoJack® system that law enforcement really appreciates is the fact that, often, when a LoJack equipped car is located, other items are found in the same location. It could be stolen items from other robberies, or one or more additional vehicles. In this case, tracking a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado truck leads Houston, TX police to a chop shop set up in a storage unit.

On July 22nd, 2013, the Chevy’s owner contacted the Harris County Precinct 3 Constables and reported their vehicle had been stolen from their residence sometime during the previous night. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the pickup, which was installed at Champion Chevrolet Mitsubishi Gulf Freeway in Houston, TX.

A short while later, an officer from Houston PD picked up the homing signal from the stolen pickup on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the pickup to a large storage building. After calling for backup and identifying the unit where the signal was coming from, the officer entered the unit and found a makeshift chop shop containing the Silverado, another stolen truck, and several thousand dollars worth of parts from other stolen vehicles. The thief had removed the battery of the truck but that measure did not keep the LoJack from working. The Chevrolet was soon returned to its grateful owner.
