This case involves a 2011 Toyota Camry stolen from a donut shop parking lot in Newark, NJ. The vehicle owner was obviously in rush, since he left his car running and unlocked with the keys in it. He must be glad that on the day he purchased his vehicle, he took the time to have the LoJack® system installed, so his local police were able to recover it the same day it was taken.

On July 8th, 2013, the Toyota’s owner called Newark Police to report that his vehicle had been stolen. Newark PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Camry, which was installed at Hudson Toyota in Jersey City, NJ.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signal from the Camry on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to Central Ave in Newark, where it was recovered abandoned and undamaged. The Toyota was soon returned to its grateful owner.
