It’s never a good morning when you wake up and find your vehicle gone. That’s what happened to this Denver, CO resident who found his Mercedes Benz ML350 missing from where he had parked it the previous evening. His bad morning was made a little better by the LoJack® system, which helped local police recover his SUV in just 90 minutes after activation.

On July 10th, 2013, the Benz’s owner discovered that his vehicle had been stolen overnight from his home and contacted the Denver Police Department. Officers verified the theft and entered the VIN (vehicle identification number) into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mercedes, which was installed at ASC Mercedes Benz in Arlington, VA.

A short while later, officers with Denver PD and investigators with the BATTLE (Beating Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement) Auto Theft Task Force began picking up the homing signals from the stolen SUV with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles.  The car was recovered parked and unoccupied. The BATTLE investigators began a surveillance of the ML350 to see if the thief would return. Two suspects were eventually taken into custody and the undamaged Mercedes was returned to the grateful owner, who stated that the LoJack system “paid for itself very quickly!”
