This case illustrates how three separate branches of a police department team up to recover a stolen SUV with the help of the LoJack® system.

On July 6th, 2013, the owner of a Lincoln Aviator contacted the Baltimore City Police Department to report that their SUV was stolen from Shellbanks Road in Baltimore. BCPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the Aviator, which was installed at Safford Lincoln Mercury in Silver Spring, MD, was then automatically activated.

Within a short period of time, flight officers from Baltimore City Aviation Unit ‘Foxtrot’ and auto theft detectives from the Regional Auto Theft Team (RATT) picked up the homing signals from the Lincoln on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their helicopter and patrol vehicles. The officers and detectives tracked the vehicle to Yosemite Avenue in Baltimore, where the Aviator was being driven. A vehicle stop was performed and the driver arrested for auto theft. The Lincoln was soon returned to its very grateful owner.
