The owner of a Nissan Maxima reported it stolen after a break-in at his Nevada home in the wee hours of a Sunday morning. Local law enforcement, assisted by the LoJack® system, recovered the vehicle in less than a half hour after activation.

The victim contacted the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department- Dayton Sub-Station, and reported the theft. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the national vehicle theft data base, NCIC. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Maxima, which was installed at Cerritos Nissan in Cerritos, CA.

A very short time later, Lyon County deputies received the homing signal from the Nissan on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The deputies tracked the signal to a residence on River Village Circle. The stolen car was in a closed garage at the residence. It was determined that the Maxima’s owner lives at this residence and had not notified the Sheriff’s Office he had located his own vehicle. This particular person has a long history with law enforcement and deputies were doing a follow up investigation looking into possible insurance fraud.
