It’s not certain if the Baltimore, MD residents in this case were trying to get some sleep before the workday or were on vacation before the July 4th holiday, but you can be sure that, either way, having their Toyota Highlander stolen just after midnight on July 2nd was very inconvenient indeed. Thank goodness the owners chose to have the LoJack® system installed when they purchased their car, so their local police were able to recover it that same day.

On July 2nd, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Baltimore City Police to report that their vehicle was stolen from Cordelia Avenue in northwest Baltimore, MD. BCPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota, which was installed at Russel Toyota in Baltimore, MD.

A short time later, detectives from the Regional Auto Theft Team (RATT) and flight officers in the Baltimore County Aviation Unit “County Air 1” picked up the homing signals from the Toyota on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles and helicopter. The detectives tracked the vehicle to Reistertown Road in Baltimore County, where they located the vehicle parked and occupied by the suspect, who was immediately arrested. The vehicle was stopped, and the suspect arrested without further incident. The undamaged Highlander was soon returned to its very grateful owners.
