It’s never a good idea to keep an extra set of car keys in an area that’s easily accessed by anyone other than you. Someone could decide to take advantage and steal your vehicle. It could be a stranger or someone you know well and thought you could trust. In this case, an Arlington, TX resident has his Ford Focus stolen when the thief ‘borrowed’ the extra keys hanging in his shed. Luckily, when the suspect took the Focus, the LoJack® system concealed inside was taken as well so law enforcement was able to recover the stolen car in less than two hours after activation.

On June 27th, 2013, the Ford’s owner contacted the Arlington, TX police to report that his vehicle was stolen from his house.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the Focus, which was installed at Texas Motors Ford in Fort Worth, TX, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the Arlington PD picked up the homing signals from the Ford on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to an apartment complex, where they found the Focus parked and unoccupied. The suspect who had driven the car into the lot was taken into custody, and the undamaged Focus was soon returned to its happy owner.
