This Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn resident learned a hard lesson when his car was broken into recently- never leave your spare key inside your vehicle. Thieves broke into his Hyundai Elantra hoping to steal the contents; instead, they found the key and took the whole car. Luckily, his Hyundai contained something else the crooks couldn’t see- the LoJack® system, which helped local law enforcement track down his auto and return it undamaged.

On June 14th, 2013, the Elantra’s owner contacted the NYPD 61st precinct to report that his vehicle was stolen from his residence. Officers entered the vehicle’s information into the NYPD stolen vehicle computer and the national NCIC system. The LoJack unit, which was installed at Manfredi Hyundai in Staten Island, NY, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, members of the Brooklyn South Auto Larceny Unit picked up the homing signal from the Elantra on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They tracked it to a residential street in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where it was found parked and abandoned. The owner was elated that his undamaged Hyundai was recovered and returned to him so quickly. He further stated that he was grateful that he had LoJack installed on his vehicle when he purchased it, feeling that if it wasn’t for LoJack his vehicle may never have been recovered.
