A used car dealer is usually happy when a vehicle is taken off the lot- unless, of course, it’s been stolen instead of sold. This Totowa, NJ dealer noticed a 2007 BMW X5 missing when he arrived at work one Monday morning. Lucky for him that there was a LoJack® system installed on the car, so local police were able to retrieve it in 96 minutes after activation.

On June 10th, 2013, the lot’s owner called the Lodi, NJ Police to report the BMW missing. He told police that he last saw the X5 parked in the front display row at closing time the previous Saturday. Lodi PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the car, which was installed at Hassel BMW/Mini in Freeport, NY.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Totowa, NJ Police Department picked up the homing signal coming from the BMW on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to the rear of a car wash on Union Blvd., where it had been parked and abandoned. The undamaged X5 was soon returned to the relieved dealership.
