This Newark, NJ resident was preparing to leave her home bright and early one Sunday morning when she ran back into the house to grab something she had forgotten. Unfortunately, she also forgot to turn off her 2013 Toyota RAV4 and take the keys, so when she came back out, her brand new SUV was gone. One thing she did not forget is to have the LoJack® system installed when she purchased her Toyota so local police were able to recover it before lunchtime.

On June 9th, 2013, the RAV4’s owner contacted Newark Police to report that her vehicle had been stolen. Newark PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the RAV4 which was installed at Glen Toyota in Fair Lawn, NJ.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals coming from the Toyota on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to North 10th Street in Newark where the vehicle was recovered in the rear yard of an abandoned house. The RAV4 was undamaged and soon returned to its grateful owner.
