Most pieces of construction equipment are very large, very valuable and very popular with thieves. That’s why most companies who own or lease these vehicles have the LoJack® system installed on their machines, so, if one is taken, the local police will be able to track it down and recover it, as in this case, where a Melroe Skid Steer is retrieved 100 miles from its original location.

On Monday, June 10th, 2013, the owner of a construction company called the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Stockton to report the theft of the skid steer, which had been taken over the weekend. CHP entered the tractor information into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the national system, NCIC. This action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Melroe, which was installed at a large national equipment rental company.

A short while later, deputies with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department began to receive the homing signal from the stolen tractor on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles. The deputies tracked the skid steer to a commercial area in south Marysville, where it was parked inside a fenced lot. The skid steer was recovered and soon returned to its relieved owner.
