One of the great things about the LoJack® system is that the homing signal from a stolen vehicle will be picked up in any area with LoJack coverage- no matter how far away it is from its original location. In this case, a Richmond, CA resident’s Honda Civic LX is stolen in the wee hours of the morning, and recovered the same day- almost 100 miles from where it was taken.

On June 7th, 2013, the Civic’s owner contacted Richmond Police to report that his vehicle was missing. Officers verified the theft and entered the car’s VIN (vehicle identification number) into the California Stolen Vehicle System as well as the national system, NCIC. The LoJack device concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at AutoWest Honda in Fremont, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers with the California Highway Patrol Stockton Area and the Stockton Police Department began to receive the homing signal from the Honda on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They quickly located the car being driven in the area of D Street and N. Vine. A traffic stop was initiated and the suspect, who was on probation for another auto theft incident, was arrested. The Civic was soon returned to its very grateful owner.
