Protecting construction vehicles is of utmost importance to their owners. When machines are stolen from worksites, there can be several people unable to perform their jobs. The equipment is also extremely costly. That is why so many business owners, like the one in this case, choose to protect their machines with the LoJack® system.

On May 21st, 2013, the owner of a Caterpillar 904 Loader contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to report that their machine was stolen from a construction site in Lockhart. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Caterpillar, which was installed at Southern Equipment in Longwood, FL, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, detectives from the OCSO Auto Theft Unit picked up the homing signals from the loader on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The detectives tracked the vehicle to a dirt road in Apopka, FL, behind a group of three salvage yards. The loader was recovered with no damage and soon released to its very happy owner.
