When you return home after a long, hard day at work, you are probably hoping to eat dinner, relax and eventually go to bed. For this Newark, NJ resident, his after work plans were spoiled one Tuesday evening when he got to his house and his Ford Explorer, which had been parked there when he left earlier that day, was now missing.

On June 4th, 2013, the Explorer’s owner called the Newark Police to report that his vehicle had been stolen from his residence. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Explorer, which was installed at Autoland in Springfield, NJ, was then automatically activated.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signal from the stolen Ford on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the vehicle to a parking lot off of Ferry Street in Newark. The SUV was recovered abandoned and undamaged. The Explorer’s owner was relieved and happy to get his vehicle back.
