The LoJack® system is renowned for tracking down cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles when they are reported stolen- even if the ‘theft’ scenario is actually a cover-up for some other situation. In this case, a Honda Civic initially reported as stolen was recovered by law enforcement in only 15 minutes- giving police plenty of time to uncover the ‘real story’.

On June 2nd, 2013, the Honda’s owner loaned her car to her brother.  The brother contacted the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office claiming he had been carjacked at knife point.  CCSO entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Civic, which was installed at Honda of Pasadena, CA.

A very short time later, CCSO picked up the homing signals from the Honda with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles, and quickly located it at a freeway off-ramp. Police transported the brother to the scene, questioning the details of his story. He finally admitted making up the carjacking scenario to avoid admitting he smashed up his sister’s car.  His sister, the Civic’s owner, soon arrived at the scene and had to be physically restrained by officers to stop her from assaulting her brother.
