The purpose of the LoJack® system is to assist law enforcement in tracking down stolen cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and construction equipment. Sometimes there are additional benefits, such as the apprehension of one or more suspects, or the discovery of illegal or additional stolen items. In this case, the San Antonio, TX police recover a car, several suspects, and some illegal drugs as well.

On May 21st, 2013, the owners of a 2009 Dodge Charger contacted the San Antonio Police Department to report that their car was stolen from their driveway sometime during the night. San Antonio PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Charger, which was installed at Mac Haik Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Houston, TX, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the San Antonio PD and the SAPD Auto Theft Task Force picked up the homing signals from the Dodge on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to a residential area where it was parked in a driveway. Officers questioned the homeowner who stated he was unaware the Charger was in his driveway. After speaking with other people at the residence and searching the property, police discovered marijuana, methamphetamine, and heroin. Four arrests were made and the Dodge was soon returned to its very grateful owners.
