Be careful who you lend your car to. That is the lesson learned by the victims in our next case, when they let someone drive their Volkswagen Jetta who later refused to return it. What this ‘friend’ didn’t know is that the owners had the LoJack® System installed when purchasing their VW so their local police would be able to track their car down and get it back.

The Jetta’s owners reported their vehicle stolen to the Tooele, UT police during the morning hours of May 23rd, 2013. Officers entered the vehicle’s information via computer into their State and National Stolen Vehicle File. The LoJack unit concealed on the VW, which was installed at Desert Volkswagen in Las Vegas, NV, was then automatically activated.

A short time later, a Sergeant with the West Valley City, UT police began picking up the homing signal from the Jetta on the LoJack tracking computer in her patrol car. She tracked the vehicle into nearby Salt Lake City and requested assistance. The VW was found abandoned and undamaged, and was soon returned to its very relieved owners.
