This case involves a stolen Honda Civic tracked down by the Fresno, CA Sheriff’s Department, who not only located the vehicle in just 97 minutes after activation, but also took FIVE juvenile suspects into custody.

On May 12th, 2013, the Civic’s owner contacted the Madera, CA Police to report that their vehicle had been stolen. Madera PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Honda, which was installed at Hayward Toyota in Hayward, CA.

A short time later, a deputy from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals from the Honda with the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. He tracked the vehicle to the parking lot of a large shopping mall in north Fresno, where the deputy noticed five juvenile males standing nearby. After summoning backup, the deputy questioned the juveniles, who all denied involvement with the vehicle. The deputy observed that the shoe tracks found next to the stolen car matched the patterns of four of the pairs of shoes worn by the boys. All five suspects were detained and later arrested. The Honda was recovered intact and undamaged; it was soon released to its relieved owner.
