Construction equipment is very costly, which is why many companies who own these machines purchase the LoJack® system to protect their investments. In this case, a backhoe valued at $90,000 was stolen from a construction site and recovered by police in only 10 minutes after activation.

On May 16th, 2013, workers at a county building site discovered a 2012 Case 580 SN backhoe had been stolen sometime after they ended work the previous day. Management immediately contacted the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers completed a theft report and entered the backhoe’s information into their state and national crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the tractor, which was installed at a large national equipment rental company in Modesto, CA.

A few minutes later, CHP officers and the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Dept. both began to receive the homing signal from the machine on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. They located the backhoe in the area of El Dorado and S. Hatch Streets, where it was parked and unattended. The Case was soon returned to its owners.
