In this case, a thief who stole an Airman Air Compressor and trailer hoped that covering it with a tarp would fool law enforcement searching for it. The covering might have deceived the police’s eyes, but it did not distract the LoJack® system concealed on the compressor, which sends a homing signal so police can track the machine down and return it to its rightful owner.

On May 16th, 2013, the Airman’s owner contacted the Harris County, TX Sheriff’s Department to report the air compressor and trailer had been stolen from the front of his residence, where he had parked them the previous evening hitched to his truck. HCSD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the air compressor.

A short while later, troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety picked up the homing signals from the stolen compressor on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The troopers tracked the compressor to a residence where they observed it beside the garage partially covered with an orange tarp. The Airman was recovered and soon returned to its happy owner.
