A phone call at 5 in the morning would surprise most of us. Whether you’re usually asleep or awake, a ringing phone at that time is usually a surprise.  This Philadelphia, PA resident was glad to be woken up, because it was the LoJack® Early Warning System for his Honda CBR600 motorcycle, letting him know his bike had been moved without his permission.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 13th, 2013, the Honda’s owner received a notification from the LoJack Early Warning System that his motorcycle was being operated without the Key Pass the owner carries while driving his bike. The owner went to the front of his residence and observed his motorcycle cover on the ground and the bike missing.  He called 911 and a Philadelphia PD officer verified the theft and entered the CBR600’s information into their local and national crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Honda, which was installed at Crossroads Powersports in Upper Darby, PA.

A short while later, a Detective from the Philadelphia Police Major Crimes intercepted the homing signal from the stolen motorcycle on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. He tracked the signal to a closed garage on Washington Street, and requested uniform backup. Before backup could arrive, a side door of the garage opened and a male exited the garage. The Detective approached the male and noticed a motorcycle matching the description of the stolen bike inside. When the uniformed officers arrived, the garage’s owner consented to a search and the bike was identified as the stolen CBR600. The male subject was placed under arrest and the Honda was soon returned to its grateful owner.
