If your vehicle is in a gated parking facility at your residence, you think it would be safe. Well, the Seattle, Washington resident in our next case would tell you to think again. A thief entered the garage where he parks his Lexus RX350 SUV, broke into it, discovered a valet key hidden inside and drove it away. Lucky for our victim, there was also a LoJack® system concealed in the vehicle that the crook couldn’t see.

On May 6th, 2013, the SUV’s owner called Seattle Police to report his Lexus was gone. He had last seen it when parking it around 4 PM the previous day. Seattle PD entered the vehicle identification number into their state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Lexus, which was installed at Lexus of Tacoma in Fife, WA .

A short while later,  a Washington State Patrol trooper patrolling in south King County received the homing signal transmitting from the Lexus on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle.  The trooper located the Lexus behind a motel at South 189th Street and 46th Avenue South.  The thief had removed the license plates and put a temporary trip permit in the rear window.  The SUV was recovered and soon returned to its very relieved owner.
