When an auto dealer in Troutdale, OR let a customer take a Honda Civic LX for a test drive, it turned into a test of patience when the customer never returned. This situation was also a test for the LoJack® system, which passed with flying colors by assisting Washington County Sheriff’s Department in retrieving the stolen vehicle only 72 minutes after activation.

On May 7th, 2013, employees at the dealership contacted the Troutdale PD, who verified the theft and entered the VIN (vehicle identification number) into their stolen vehicle database.  This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Civic, which was installed at Auto West Honda in Roseville, CA.

A short while later, a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy received the homing signal from the Honda on the LoJack tracking computer in his patrol car.  He located the unoccupied car in a mall parking lot.  Deputies set up surveillance on the car and arrested the male suspect when he returned. He had loaded the Civic with personal belongings and appeared to be planning to leave the area. The LX was soon returned to the dealership.
