Carjacking is a serious and scary event. It’s important to remember that, even though it’s human nature to protect your belongings, your safest mode of action is to step back and let the thieves take the car, in order to preserve your own life. The victim in this next case did just that, but he also had the advantage of having the LoJack® System installed in his Toyota Corolla, so police were able to retrieve it for him that same day.

On May 7th, 2013, the Corolla’s owner contacted the Houston Police Department to report that his vehicle was car jacked by three male subjects armed with handguns as he stopped at an intersection. The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the Toyota, which was installed at Sterling McCall Toyota in Houston, TX, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from Houston PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the Corolla to a large apartment parking lot where the car was parked and abandoned. The Toyota was soon returned to its grateful owner.
