In this case, as well as many others you may have read, the stolen vehicle is recovered abandoned. Why would someone bother stealing a car, truck, van or motorcycle and then abandon it? The reason is that it may have the LoJack® system installed, but since it’s hidden, the thieves can’t tell it’s there. The only way for them to know is to park the vehicle somewhere and wait to see if the police track it down. Recently, it took the Baltimore City police only 70 minutes after activation to locate an abandoned Chrysler Town & Country van.

On May 5th, 2013, the Chrysler’s owner contacted the Baltimore City PD to report that their van was stolen from Plainfield Avenue. BCPD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Chrysler, which was installed at Thompson Dodge in Baltimore, MD.

A short while later, officers from the BCPD picked up the homing signals from the van on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to Block Knell Avenue in Baltimore City, where the unoccupied Town & Country was recovered. It was soon returned to its grateful owners.
