When a thief takes a vehicle, they don’t always move the vehicle far away. Sometimes they will hide the car, truck, van or motorcycle nearby to let the search for it cool off. On the other hand, there are perpetrators like the one in this next case, who operate the vehicle in broad daylight, hoping no one notices. Unfortunately for her, the Honda Accord she stole was protected by the LoJack® System, so the police were able to track her down and apprehend her.

On April 23rd, 2013, the Accord’s owner contacted the San Diego Police Department to report that her vehicle was stolen from her residence. San Diego PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the Accord, which was installed at Sierra Honda in Monrovia, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the SFPD Air Unit picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter.  The officers tracked the vehicle to a recreational park area and directed ground units to it. The ground officers observed a female sitting inside the Honda and arrested her.  The Accord was soon returned to its very happy owner.
