You may wonder why LoJack® tracking computers are installed in police aircraft as well as ground vehicles. Even though it would be difficult for a police helicopter to pull over a driver, the officers in the sky often have a better view from above and can see where stolen cars, trucks and motorcycles may be stashed. In this case, air and ground units from the Baltimore City Police combine forces to locate a stolen 2007 Toyota Camry

On April 22nd, 2013, the Camry’s owners contacted the BCPD to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Toyota, which was installed at Brown’s Toyota City in Glen Burnie, MD.

Within a short period of time, flight officers in a Baltimore City Aviation Unit picked up the homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their helicopter. They tracked the vehicle to Harford Road in Baltimore City, and alerted ground units in the area. The ground officers located the unoccupied car hidden in the rear alley behind a garage. The undamaged Toyota was soon returned to the happy owners.
