The LoJack® system is a great tool to assist law enforcement in locating a stolen vehicle- or vehicles. In this case, police were tracking a stolen Chevy truck, and got a bonus when they discovered other stolen cars at the same location.

On April 15th, 2013, the Chevy’s owners contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Compton Station, to report that their utility truck was stolen off the street in Compton, CA. The LASD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into their state and federal crime computers. This automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the vehicle, which was installed at Tustin Chevrolet in Tustin, CA.

A short while later, officers picked up the homing signals from the Chevy on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle. They tracked the SUV to a known gang house and chop shop on Harvard Street. They recovered the truck along with two other stolen vehicles that had their VINs (vehicle identification numbers) removed. This was the same location where police had recovered nine stolen vehicles the previous summer. The utility truck was soon returned to its owners.
